Mezzo-soprano Corinna Scheurle, a former participant in the International Singing Competition NEUE STIMMEN and a scholarship holder of the Liz Mohn Foundation, captivated the audience at the opening concert of the Munich Security Conference. The concert took place in the Allerheiligen-Hofkirche in Munich and was opened by the Chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen. This year’s Security Conference concert was titled “Far from Peace and Harmony.”

With a program of five Schubert songs such as “Im Frühling,” “Nachtstück,” and “Rastlose Liebe,” accompanied by pianist Akemi Murakami, Corinna Scheurle delighted the guests present: Among them were Wladimir Klitschko and other personalities from politics, society, and culture, such as Kammersängerin Waltraud Meier, star violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, and the former president of the Salzburg Festival and honorary curator of the Liz Mohn Foundation, Helga Rabl-Stadler. Following Heusgen’s opening and Scheurle’s singing, a panel discussion with various crisis reporters such as Paul Ronzheimer from Bild and Trey Yingst from Fox News in Jerusalem took place. Afterwards, a chamber ensemble of the West Eastern Divan Orchestra, founded by Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said, presented Schubert’s Octet in F major, D 803.

Corinna Scheurle, now a member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater Nürnberg, has been part of the NEUE STIMMEN Creating Careers network since her successful participation in the international singing competition. The Liz Mohn Foundation summarizes its commitment to discovering, promoting, and supporting young opera talents under this program. In addition to the singing competition, workshops, master classes, and concert activities are part of the program to further develop and increase the visibility of young artists. Scheurle not only used the performance opportunity to draw attention to herself but also the subsequent conversation with the present personalities from the cultural sector to further build her personal network.

Since 2024, the Liz Mohn Foundation has been a partner of the Munich Security Conference and organizes the musical part of the opening evening. Last year, NEUE STIMMEN finalist from 2019, Nombulelo Yende, had the chance to perform alongside internationally renowned tenor Rolando Villazón and showcase her vocal talent to the audience.
