CREATING LEADERSHIP CULTURES

Self-leadership as a key to success: New Liz Mohn Foundation publication for executives

In times of uncertainty and growing complexity, how can effective leadership succeed? One key component is the ability to exercise self-leadership.

This new publication, developed in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Dieter Frey from the Center for Leadership and People Management at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, explains why self-leadership is a foundation of effective leadership and how executives can strengthen it. Self-leadership means being aware of one’s own values, motives and roles, and remaining capable of acting under pressure. Those who want to provide guidance and take responsibility need inner clarity and the ability to consciously manage their thoughts, emotions and actions.

Why self-leadership matters for executives

Leadership plays an important role in many fields, including business, politics, culture, sport and academia. At the same time, growing crises, conflicts and social tensions are making it increasingly difficult to provide direction and make decisions. The publication makes one thing clear: those who want to lead others must first be able to lead themselves. Self-leadership is therefore not a private matter, but a key success factor for responsible leadership.

A practical guide

The publication is designed as a practical guide. It provides a structured overview, highlights key dimensions of self-leadership and invites readers to systematically strengthen their own self-leadership through reflection prompts. Its aim is to support executives in remaining capable of acting under pressure, taking responsibility and keeping their well-being and health in mind. At the heart of the publication is the specially developed “10 Pillars of Self-Leadership” model.

The publication “Pillars of Self-Leadership” (in German) is available for download below.
