Technological developments, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence, social changes, and economic uncertainties are all unfolding simultaneously and at a rapid pace today. For leaders, this means they must provide direction, make decisions amid uncertainty, and navigate organizations through conflicting demands. Future Leadership describes the ability to lead successfully under these conditions.
At the core are ten competencies considered essential for future-proof leadership. They demonstrate that successful leadership today relies less on individual tools and more on an attitude that encompasses self-leadership, reflection, and the ability to learn, as well as the constructive handling of conflicting priorities, digital adaptability, and AI competence, along with a willingness to try new things and foster innovation.
These competencies were discussed and further developed with executives during the Liz Mohn Foundation’s Future Leadership Training sessions and draw on key insights from research and practice. The publication now being presented, “Future Leadership – Why Future-Proof Leadership Begins with Ourselves,” brings these insights together and makes them accessible to a broader audience. It is aimed at leaders, organizations, and anyone dealing with the question of how leadership can be shaped to be future-proof under conditions of complexity, uncertainty, and technological change.
The publication builds on “Pillars of Self-Leadership” and broadens the focus from self-leadership to the question of which competencies leaders need in an increasingly complex, dynamic, and technology-driven world. The Liz Mohn Foundation thus aims to support leaders in remaining capable of acting under pressure in the future and taking responsibility for themselves, their employees, and their organization.
